Hey everybody! So, first off, you're probably wondering who I am. Well, my name is Marissa, and to clear things up, I'm not actually a cook, though I would like to think that I'm pretty good at cooking. I'm actually a freelance photographer and graphic designer, which is part of what inspired me to make this blog.
Here is my story..
I never grew up cooking, and when I was on my own in college I generally survived on dining hall food, macaroni and cheese, cereal, and other typical easy-to-make college food. Occasionally I would make cookies or cakes, but I never really ventured far into the cooking world. It finally hit me that I should learn how to cook when I got married just a little over two years ago; suddenly I wasn't just making food for myself anymore, and I was expected to make dinner more than once in a blue moon. So I decided to start looking up recipes and testing my finished cooked products out on my husband. Most of the recipes worked, some of them didn't, but for the most part my dinners were turning out pretty successfully, which made me very happy. In turn, I began looking up more recipes, started inviting friends for dinner more often, and even took a cooking class my last semester of college, and soon cooking became fun (except for the cleaning the kitchen after, of course).
And now, after about two years of this, I have collected a bunch of recipes that I haven't really taken the time to organize; some are in binders, some are in cookbooks, some are on 8 ½ by 11 printouts, and others are on scribbled on index cards. This is where the initial idea for this blog came about: I wanted to organize my favorite recipes into one central location. At first I thought of just typing them up on my computer and uploading them to my android phone whenever I wanted to cook my recipe (I have a cool Android phone); but the designer in me said that was a boring idea. So I decided that I would make cute little print-out cards in InDesign with the recipes written on them. Then the photographer in me said that was boring too. So then I decided, why not take pictures of my recipes that turn out as I cook them, and then make cute little cards?
I was just going to start making these cards for myself, but my friends kept asking for recipes of stuff I had made. So I decided, why don't I share them? And so, the blog was born!
In case you are wondering, all photography and graphic design is original. I do get recipes from various places, and I'll give credit where I can.
I hope you enjoy my blog, and be sure to tell me how the recipes turned out for you!
